Boxcar Bandits: North Texas Skunkgrass power trio and friends, homegrown in Denton, TX since 2006. Equally at home at a beer joint or concert hall, back porch or street corner, the group melds bluegrass, old-time, western swing and country with the sounds of string band instruments to create their signature Skunkgrass sound. Boxcar Bandits’ first album, “Smells Like Grass” was released in 2008, and a live set, “Live at Dan’s Silver Leaf”, was released in 2011; both are available on Break-a-Pick Records. Also available on Break-a-Pick Records is their 3rd release, 2016's "Ballads to Deep Gap: A Tribute to Doc Watson."
From 2010-2015 Boxcar Bandits had a Monday night residency in Denton, most recently at Mulberry Street Cantina. The band continues touring throughout the southern half of the United States. The band has also opened for such acts as Junior Brown, John Cowan, Greensky Bluegrass, Mountain Sprout, Packway Handle Band, Milkdrive, and Cornmeal. In the Fall of 2012, the Boxcar Bandits were nominated for a Dallas Observer Music Award in Best Roots/Americana category.
